Richard E. Evans
is the founder of Points West. Rich is a graduate of Queen’s University
Law School and articled with an international law firm in Toronto,
Ontario.
He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and has been an NHLPA
certified agent since 2000. In 1992, Rich began advising corporations
such as Coca-Cola concerning their interests in sports properties, and
in 1994 he became the Director of Legal & Business Affairs for the
Professional Hockey Players’ Association(PHPA), representing the
interests of over 1000 players in the AHL, IHL and ECHL.
Rich’s roles at the PHPA included advising agents and players concerning
contractual and collective bargaining issues, and in 2000 he began to
represent
players as an agent and family advisor. Since then, Rich has represented
NHLplayers, as well as those playing major junior (WHL, OHL, QMJHL),
NCAA, USHL,
European professional hockey and those in the North American minor pro
leagues
(AHL,
ECHL). Rich has negotiated contracts for NHL draft picks, unrestricted
free
agents
and restricted free agents (both with and without salary arbitration
rights). He
strives to devote his time equally to the careers of all his clients.
Rich has also taught
Sports Law at an Ontario University.
Rich’s legal background and experience working for a players’
association has led to
outstanding results for his numerous NHL clients in contract
negotiation, salary
arbitration and grievance arbitration matters. He resides in the hockey
hotbed of
Vancouver, British Columbia, with his wife and two children.
